NAUTICAL ESCAPES OPEN HOUSE

What: Nautical Escapes is hosting an open house for anyone that is interested in learning about sailing!

Why: Expect free boat tours and sailing rides, refreshments, and a chance to meet the staff.

A WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES

Who: Hosted by film and television actor and writer Paul Gross, the event will feature performances from R&B singer Deborah Cox, Metropolitan Opera star Isabel Bayrakdarian, Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, and multi-Grammy award winning producer-composer David Foster.

What: A World of Possibilities live outdoor concert celebrates Architectural Opening of Michael Lee-Chin Crystal Doors open for the first time with free admission.

When: June 2, 2007 at 9:30 p.m.

Where: The Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen’s Park, Toronto.

AND MAGAZINE LAUNCH PARTY

What: The launch of Canada’s newest magazine – AND Magazine featuring Jewish Legend, Nordic Nomatic, Gravity Wave, readings by Louis Calabro, guest DJs, and more.

Why: Be the first to check out AND’s very first issue!

When: June 1, 2007. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Where: Elmocambo, 464 Spadina Avenue, Toronto. Tickets cost $10 at the door and include a complimentary copy of AND Magazine.

SASSON SOIREE: CYRUS UNDER SIEGE

What: An evening of high art, culture and cocktails. Guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music, gift bags, and an art gallery featuring fashion illustrations and paintings by acclaimed Canadian artist Frederick Watson, works from the private collection of fashion photographer Arline Malakian, and a 7-panel mural by Israeli Canadian artist Dubie Arie.

Why: The evening was in celebration of the launch of SASSON Magazine’s 2007 edition and dedicated to creating awareness of the impending destruction of the 2,500-year-old historic ruins of the Parsgard. (The ruins include archaeological treasures from the time of King Cyrus the Great.)

BEAUTY + BLISS SPALICIOUS EVENT

Normal services often starting at $100 and up, and are now being offered at fixed price rates of $25, $50, and $75.

ECSTASY

What: Ecstasy, a dark romantic comedy based on the controversial book Ecstasy by Irvine Welsh (who also wrote Trainspotting with Ewan Macgregor) is looking for musical talent! Ecstasy film producers are looking for bands and artists to submit songs for consideration to be included in the film and soundtrack.

Why: Winners will have their song heard in the film and on the film’s soundtrack. Artists on the soundtrack include Paolo Nutini, Iggy Pop, Bob Marley, Supertramp, The Undertones, The Chemical Brothers, and The Stone Roses. Ecstasy’s cast includes Erica Durance, Billy Boyd, and Richard E. Grant.

THE GRAND OPENING OF CAPEZIO'S FLAGSHIP STORE

What: Capezio and Davids hosted side by side red carpet launch parties to celebrate the opening of the Capezio flagship store as well as David’s multi-million dollar renovation designed by Burdifilek. The event featured fab cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, great gift bags, and celebrity appearances including Jacksoul and the cast of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Why: For Spring 07, Capezio has introduced the shoe collections of Jeffrey Campbell and Marc Fischer as well as handbags by Chinese Laundry and George Gina & Lucy. Davids has also expanded its collections to include women’s footwear from Missoni, Laurence Decade, Luciano Padovan, Elisa Ferare, men’s shoes from Fred Perry and To Boot New York, handbags from Lanvin Paris, and watches from BobbyHBobby.

SANTE: THE BLOOR-YORKVILLE WINE FESTIVAL

What: A five-day festival featuring over 50 internationally acclaimed wineries from Canada and abroad and a line-up of Toronto's top chefs.

Why: The festival combines wine tasting with education seminars and discussions. (Tip: Our favourite is the Sip, Savour and Shop ($20 per passport) that gives you access to complimentary wine tastings, food pairings, and makeup touch-ups and sample treatments at some of Yorkville’s trendiest spas.)

TORONTO JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL

What: The largest of its kind in North America, Toronto's Jewish Film Festival attracts an audience of over 30,000 people and showcases feature films, documentaries, and shorts on Jewish culture, heritage, and identity.

Why: The festival aims to break through anti-Semitic barriers and stereotypes while educating audiences on the diversity of the Jewish experience across the world.

When: May 5th until May 13, 2007.

Where: Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West, and the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre, 750 Spadina Avenue, Toronto. For more information, call 416-324-9121.

THE CLOTHING SHOW

What: Emerging talented clothing and jewelry designers, local retailers, and sample companies offering big labels at up to 90% off retail. There will also be an array of antique and vintage jewelry, clothing, and accessories as well as reworked contemporary clothing.

When: May 5th from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and May 6th from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Purchase advance tickets for $8 (instead of $10 at the door).
