ART OF LOVE

Who: Chef Paul Boehmer (Six Steps), Chef Greg Couillard (Spice Room, Manyata), and Chef Marc Thuet (Bistro Bakery Thuet, Atelier).

What: Mingle and feast on feature dishes from some of toronto’s hottest chefs.

Why: Two-hundred guests will enjoy an exclusive tapas-style dinner, LOVE cocktails, and the LOVE after party ($160 per ticket). Party tickets ($50) include complimentary cocktails from Havana Club, music, and dancing.

A NIGHT IN RED WITH THE RAPTORS

Who: Chris Bosh, Jose Calderon, Kris Humpries, T.J. Ford, Rasho Nesterovic, Sam Mitchell, and more.

What: A celebration of the 2006/2007 season and the upcoming 2007 NBA playoffs at the 12th annual Red Party RapUp event in support of the Raptors Foundation.

Why: More than 650 guests enjoyed yummy culinary delights (think duck confit poutine, Great Lakes yellow perch “Po’Boy” with dill aioli, and mini hamburgers), a silent auction including hot items such as autographed jerseys and merchandise (and even spa packages and jewelry from Tiffany’s!), and a chance to mingle with their favourite Raptors, coaches, and the Raptors Dance Pak.

Who: Rice Bar’s Brock Shepherd and Chelsea Room’s Fadi Hakin.

What: A roaring 20s gala fundraiser featuring live tap and flapper-style dancing, 1920s appetizers and cocktails, and silent auctions.

Why: Proceeds from the event will benefit Windfall Clothing Service, Canada’s only new clothing bank. Plus, it’s a perfect opportunity to sport your most fabulous Gatsby-esque attire.

THE SEWING STUDIO

What: The Sewing Studio has moved! Their new and adorably decorated (think Jo Malone button boxes and framed 1950s pin up gal pictures) studio was taken out for a test run last week when guests stopped by for a lesson in tote bag construction. Invitees sipped their wine and nibbled on cupcakes and licorice while getting help from studio owner Denise as well as sewing instructors Rina, Maite, and Julianna.

Why: Refine your own signature style by including some unique pieces to your repertoire. Their feature workshops this month include yoga bag making and t-shirt reconstruction.

THE RED AND WHITE BALL

What: The much anticipated 5th Annual Red and White Ball event was hosted at one of Toronto’s trendiest venues, Maro, in support of breast cancer research. The night was a flurry of delightful hors d’oevres (sushi, bocconcini cheese rolled in beef carpaccio sprinkled with cilantro, and coconut shrimp with a spicy pink sauce), delish drinks, and music. MacGraham, a hot new recording artist, performed while guests sipped on Champbull (Champagne mixed with Red Bull) and mingled with Toronto’s hottest and most influential individuals.

MINI PARTY

What: Guests were able to customize their cocktails, select their choice of music at the listening station, and choose their own adventures on screen. The party was in celebration of Mini Mixology, where you can customize your own Mini by picking the colour, trim, or interior finish.

Why: Invitees perused the Minis on display as well as the customized shoes and stilettos on exhibit whilst sipping their Stellas and glasses of prosecco and nibbling on fresh Thai spring rolls, skewered chicken, and braised lamb on beds of polenta.

FASHION CARES PRESENTS: PEEP

What: The 21st annual Fashion Cares media campaign launch. Fashion Cares has a new Creative Director! This year, the show will fall under the creative direction of noted executive producer Chip Quigley, president of Kingdom Entertainment. Quigley’s recent experience includes the Elton John AIDS Foundation Official Fashion Rocks TV special as well as the International Emmy Awards.

Why: All proceeds of Fashion Cares will benefit the Aids Committee of Toronto (ACT). Event host Jay Manuel will set the stage for headline performer Kelly Rowland (of Destiny’s Child), Grammy winning Mya, Bedouin Soundclash, Girlique, and special guest Mac Viva Glam spokeperson Dita Von Teese. Quigley claims that this year’s theme peep “will be a one-of-a-kind experience that blends world-class entertainment and fashion with a sexy, glamorous ambiance.”
