With the recent media buzz surrounding the harsh and harmful environmental realities of today, it was no surprise that this summer would be dedicated to sun protection, sun protection, and…you guessed it – more sun protection. Thanks to the depleted ozone layer, our skin is at the highest risk it has ever been for UV exposure and adverse effects that come along with it. Among other things, increased sun exposure can lead to blistering sunburns, early signs of aging (imagine wrinkles at 25!), and as we all know, skin cancer.
Coppertone, like many other sun protection products out there, plans to enlighten the public on UV protection. They held an exclusive media preview featuring a non-invasive UV camera, which detected harmful skin damage present beneath the surface of the skin, Members of the media got a chance to see what their skin really looked like underneath it all – and the results were astounding. Not only did the tell-it-like-it-is camera detect developing sun spots and other skin damage invisible to the human eye, but it also showed the ‘built-in’ sunscreen each participant already encompassed, thanks to their natural melatonin or skin tone. The darker the skin, the more melatonin in it, and therefore, the more protection. Some were shocked to find out the daily sunscreen they used provided little more protection that their ‘built-in’ sunscreen!
Along with an eye-opening look at the effects that today’s harmful UV rays have on our skin, the presentation also included a consultation from health and beauty experts and personalized tips for better skin protection. Attendees left well-informed and well-stocked with a gift basket filled with Coppertone’s new line of sunscreens including the waterproof Continuous Spray General SPF 15 sunscreen and the sweatproof Continuous Spray Sport SPF 15 sunscreen. Both sunscreens require no rubbing or mess and their spill-free twist and lock caps make them easy-to-apply beach bag essentials. A bottle of Coppertone’s General Adult SPF 50 as well as the other sunscreens and an oversized beach towel were given out in large beach bags.
